Showing Love
Showing Love
“This is my commandment,
that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than
this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you
do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does
not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that
I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:12-15
What
the world needs NOW is love sweet love! God's
love... unconditionally shown to and through his people.
Day
after day each of us is wake up to debilitating news of hatred, violence,
financial problems, health issues, and other personal concerns. What can we do
to make a difference? What can we do to make a change? Show someone God's love!
Why Show Love?
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if
you have love for one another.” John 13:35
Christ
showed the ultimate display of love by giving up his life for us. If we claim
to be his children, his followers, then why are we not showing love the way he
does? Why is it so difficult to forgive, let go, move on and love one another?
We make God’s sacrifice worthless when we cannot love our fellow man.
What Does Love Looks Like?
Love is patient, love
is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor
others, it is not self-seeking, it
is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in
evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres. Love never fails.
But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they
will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 1 Corinthians
13:4-8
God
is very intentional on how love looks and how we are to show it. There is
nowhere in the Bible that gives us permission to hate anyone… His word clearly
states that we should hate evil. That includes that that we see, and the evil
that we do… Proverbs 10:12 says that Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.
Who Are We To Love and How?
“Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love.” 1 John 4:8
We
are to love everyone… God is no respecter of person, so who are we to be? This refers
to the person who hurt you and who broke you down. The person who tried to destroy
you and your testimony. The stranger that does not meet your standards and the
people in your family. God expects us to love everyone with an AGAPE love. Agape
love is unique and is distinguished by its nature and character. Agape is love
which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself. God does not merely love; He is love
itself. Everything God does flows from His love.
Be Blessed, G
